Billy Joe Saunders is the next in line to try and be just the second person to beat the Mexican Canelo in 55 fights, when they take to the ring on May 8th. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez swiftly cruised past Turkish boxer Yildirim to keep his WBC and WBA titles on Saturday night, just prior to promoter Eddie Hearn announcing his fight with Billy Joe Saunders. Saunders’ WBO title will be on the line in their upcoming bout. Alvarez is 31 this year is looking for reunification. He is a four-division world champion who has a glimmering record of 55 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw with 37 knockouts. On the other hand, Billy Saunders is invincible in 30 bouts winning all and claiming 11 knockouts on his way. If Alvarez wins against Billy Saunders it moves him within 1 fight of becoming the first-ever undisputed super-middleweight champions in boxing. Alvarez says that ‘’no one has done it’’ he then goes onto say that ‘’(I) want to make history. No one has done it at 168 (pounds)’’

Cruising Victory for the Mexican

Yildririm, Alvarez’s Turkish opponent retired before the start of the fourth round after the Mexican put him on the canvas in the 3rd round at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Speaking after the fight Canelo says ‘’ I wanted to have a great fight and I did what I had to do’’ he then went on to say, ‘’I needed a knockout and that’s what I did. It doesn’t matter if they’re taller, if they’ve got more reach, or they’ve got a good trainer. I came to do my job, I came to win’’.

That was Canelo’s first fight since fighting and beating Saunders’ fellow Briton Callum Smith in December, Saul Alvarez always had the fight under control and dominated the fight, he then floored Smith with a crisp left-right shot where Callum Smith couldn’t recover. Joe Saunders last fought in December against Martin Murray. He also dominated however he won on points by unanimous decision. The fight between Canelo and Saunders was scheduled to take place before Canelos fight against Callum Smith but was forced to fight Callum Smith instead.
