Fight of the Century Details Emerge in AJ vs TF

24 April 2021

Anthony Joshua, the two-time unified world heavyweight British boxing champion has agreed to a clash with Tyson Fury, also a British two-time heavyweight world champion, in a fight that is being labelled the fight of the century! The £200 million mega-fight will go ahead this summer with a venue already on the table, but yet to be disclosed. Last month, the fight was agreed but neither party had a host nor a date, but promoter Eddie Hearn then went on a search which took him to six countries over four continents in search of the best possible place to host an epic clash of the titans, but it’s not as easy as it sounds!

Armed with four offers, Eddie took his offers to the table and the fighters opted for their favourites and now we wait for the announcement. Speaking to the UK media, Eddie said: “Both sides have approved the site offer that they want to go with and we’re just finalising the site deal and we’re in a great place. I saw Tyson yesterday, we had five or 10 minutes together. It was good, I don’t know what’s in his mind but what he cemented in my mind is that this is the only fight he wants and it’s the same with AJ.”

Saudi Arabia has been a favourite for many a sports betting punter with them laying bets on this country being the host of the fight, what with it being the exact location where Joshua took out his revenge on Any Ruiz Jr in 2019. We may not have known the venue at the time of starting our news piece, but by the time we’d researched the fighters and the best odds for each of those, news emerged of the venue, and the punters were spot on – Saudi Arabia!

The undisputed fight venue was the location of choice for both Joshua and Fury, but the location will only be secured once a site fee is placed. Provisionally speaking, the date of the fight will be July 24th or August 7th. According to boxing stats, it will be “the first fight will crown the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis held the honour in 1999.”

Stats:

Anthony Joshua:

  • Age: 31
  • Height: 6ft 6”
  • Weight: 113kg
  • Fights: 25
  • Won: 24
  • Lost: 1
  • Won by KO: 22

Tyson Fury:

  • Age: 32
  • Height: 6ft 9”
  • Weight: 117kg
  • Fights: 31
  • Won: 30
  • Lost: 1
  • Won by KO: 21

Based on those stats, Fury has 3” on Joshua’s height, but Joshua has 1 more win by knock out than Fury. Joshua has fought six matches less than Fury and has a better overall score, but will he manage to add another win to his belt, or will he succumb to the Gypsy King?
