The Italians last became European champions in 1968. That was many football generations ago. In 1988 the Italians reached the semifinals but then lost to the former Soviet Union. At the 2016 European Championship, the Italian team reached the quarterfinals.
England last won European Championship in 1996. In the tournaments that followed, England did not get further than the quarterfinals. At the European Championship 2016, the English were eliminated in the eighth-finals.
Head 2 Head
The last time that England and Italy played a duel was in 2018. This was a preparation match for the 2018 World Cup. The game was tied 1-1. Three years earlier, a practice match was also completed with these figures. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Italy defeated the England team in the group stage.
Current form Italy
Italy beat Spain 2-1 in the semifinals. The game was not decided in regulation time. Italian Chiesa scored the first goal of the game in the sixtieth minute. The Italian Morata also made one in the eightieth minute: 1-1. No goals were scored in extra time, so penalties had to be taken. The Italians took it best, which means that they are now in the final.
Current form England
England’s semifinal against Denmark is a point of discussion for many due to the penalty was given by Dutch referee Makkelie at the end of extra time. It was 1-1 in regular time. This was achieved by a goal from Dane Damsgaard and an own goal from Kjaer. In spare time, Kane missed that much-discussed penalty. Still, he ended up in front of his feet through the keeper again, allowing the attacker to shoot England to the final!
